This application uses YouTube API Services, including the YouTube IFrame Player API, to embed movie trailers hosted on YouTube. By using this site, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and the YouTube API Services Terms of Service.
Per the YouTube API Services Terms of Service and the YouTube Branding Guidelines, every display of YouTube content on MoviesLikeThis carries a visible “Trailer · YouTube” attribution that links to the source on youtube.com. Trailer thumbnails are served through the Next.js image optimizer to reduce load on YouTube's CDN and to attach a strict-origin referrer policy. We do not modify YouTube thumbnails, remove YouTube branding, or use unofficial brand assets.
We do not collect, store, or share personal information beyond what is needed to operate the site. Signing in is optional: guests can browse the archive without an account. If you sign in, authentication is handled by our identity provider, Supabase Auth, which offers sign-in with Google. We receive the basic profile data needed to identify your account (such as your email address).
Your account record holds your display name, your film ratings, and your watchlist. If you set a display name, a public profile page at /u/your-id shows your name, your ratings, and a few aggregate stats to anyone with the link. Without a display name, no public page is created. Your page is public by default, and you can switch it to private from Settings at any time — a private page is visible only to you.
If you import your IMDb ratings, the CSV file you upload is parsed on our servers only to add those ratings to your account. The file itself is not stored, and the ratings data stays attached to your account.
Signing in is optional: guests can browse the archive without an account. If you sign in, authentication is handled by our identity provider, Supabase Auth, which sets session cookies to keep you signed in and stores your account record in our database. That record holds your display name, ratings, and watchlist. A separate cookie records your theme preference (ink or paper) so the page renders correctly on first load. A consent cookie records your analytics choice (see below). We do not set advertising cookies.
Third parties may set cookies or read existing cookies on your device when embedded content loads. When you play an embedded YouTube trailer, YouTube and Google may collect and share data as described in the Google Privacy Policy, including basic device and usage data used to render the video, determine playability, and prevent fraud. Their use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited, in aggregate, and how visitors arrive. The analytics script is gated behind a consent banner: nothing is measured until you accept. Google processes that data in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.
Analytics uses Google cookies (for example _ga) to distinguish visitors. If you decline, or before you choose, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics requests are made. You can change your choice at any time by clearing cookies for this site in your browser — the banner will reappear.
Before embedding any video, we look up its Made for Kids status using the YouTube Data API. Videos designated as Made for Kids are served through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), which disables tracking and personalisation for that playback, in compliance with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The check is cached on the film record and re-verified every 30 days.
Because we do not request authorization to access your YouTube account, there is no token to revoke. If you wish to manage permissions granted to applications that do access your Google account data, visit Google Security Settings.
You can review and change your display name at any time from Settings, and you can rate or unrate any film to adjust your account record. To delete your account and the associated ratings, watchlist, and profile, or to request a copy of your data, contact us using the details below.
Questions about this privacy notice can be directed to the site administrator through the contact information provided on the deployment.
